The Jewish Museum in Riga

Originally, the museum was intended to serve solely as a memorial. However, the founders decided against this approach, arguing that one cannot tell the story of how people died without first telling the story of how they lived.

The museum also addresses many stereotypes and prejudices, focusing on how to educate people about them. For example, the museum emphasizes that many different minority groups had been living in Latvia for a long time, not only Jews. Jewish people were an established part of society. In addition, members of the Jewish community visit schools to educate students on about common prejudices against Jews in order to prevent further misconceptions and false narratives.

The exhibition also highlights highly intellectual individuals who were, on the one hand, important to the Jewish community, but who also held significant roles in society at large to, once again, emphasize their well-established position in society before the Nazi era.
