Riga City Tour

Today we were guided through the city of Riga by Ilya Lensky, director of the Mueseum "Jews in Latvia". We visited various sights significant to the Jewish Community in Latvia, including the only remaining synagogue in Riga and the Jewish Community House, which also houses the museum.

Riga offers numerous historically layered buildings, many of which represent outstanding examples of Art Nouveau architecture. Ilya payed particular attention to the architecture and original function of these buildings. As we walked through the city, we were shown historical photographs and drawings of various buildings, offering visiual insights into what these places used to look like in the past.

This approach made it easier to visualize how life in the past differed from life today. The tour was particularly engaging thanks to Ilya’s deep knowledge and the many small yet insightful details he shared along the way.
